Within the Pathologies that are more frequently attended we have:
  • Diabetic foot
  • Primary Varicose veins and its complications
  • Venous Thrombosis
  • Post thrombotic Syndrome
  • Occlusive and Aneurismal lesions ( arteriosclerosis ,arteritis, and aneurisms
  • Lymphedemas
  • Vascular traumatism
  • Embolic and Thrombotic acute arterial insufficiency
  • Extracraneal arterial ischemic insufficiency
  • Functional angiopaties
  • Compression syndrome of the shoulder girdle
  • Vascular access for hemodialysis
  • Renal transplants with the collaboration of the personnel of the nephrology department
  • Angyodysplasias and vascular tumors
  • Pathologies that require of vascular microsurgery
In this specialty the morbidity, mortality and physical disability rate are elevated. The epidemiological studies regarding these pathologies have been able to demonstrate that:
  • Approximately 50 % of the adult population (2 of every 3 women and 1 of every 5 men) suffers of varicose veins in either of their inferior extremities and 10% of the cases require of a direct treatment.
  • The cerebrovascular pathologies are the 3rd cause of death and those of extracraneal origin have a prevalence rate up to 12% in adults older than 40 years.
  • Approximately 2% of adults over 50 years are affected by an aortic aneurism and a sixth of these are of the abdominal aorta.
  • Nearly 15% of the population over 50 years suffers of arterial insufficiency of the lower limbs due to peripheral atherosclerotic disease.
  • Approximately 25% of the diabetic population has an obstruction of the distal arteries and 90% are included in the plantar arteries.
  • 5 % of the adult population has suffered or is suffering of lymphangitis or lymphedema and a similar percent of cases has a sequela of a profound vein thrombosis(post thrombotic syndrome)
  • Around 10% of the hospital deaths are due to a pulmonary thromboembolism.
  • The major amputation rate due to vascular causes is over 1 for each 10,000 inhabitants per year , being atherosclerosis obliterans and the diabetic angiopathy the most responsible pathologies.
